The Copenhagen Fire Department was formed in 1889 to protect the citizens and property of the Village of Copenhagen. The department has grown over the years to protect not only the Village of Copenhagen, but also portions of the Towns of Denmark, Harrisburg, Champion, and the Town of Pinckney. The department became an incorporated entity under New York State Law in 1953.
The department has a current active roster of 40 members, and operate six pieces of apparatus. The department currently meets the first Thursday night each month.
The Copenhagen Fire Department is made up of men and women from various walks of life. Our members range from housewives to students to retired members of the community. Each member of the department brings with them a variety of qualities and talents which make our department a well-rounded organization to serve our community.
The Copenhagen Fire Department currently covers the Village of Copenhagen, parts of the Towns of Denmark, Harrisburg, Champion, and all of the Town of Pinckney.

The total square mileage in our coverage area is approximately 20 square miles, with a total population of approximately 3500 people. Most of the population of this area is involved in the agricultural field, with most of the population of the Village of Copenhagen working out side of the Village, either in Lowville, Carthage, or Watertown. The Copenhagen Central School, also located in the Village, has a current enrollment of approximately 700 students.
The Village also hosts a convenience store, repair garage, diner, pizza shop, hardware store, snowmobile repair garage, post office, and two taverns. The Village also has a 15-unit senior citizens housing complex, along with a 75-unit military 801 housing project within the Village limits.
